Soul drum building with Marianna Stähli-Bättig

Under the guidance of Marianna Stähli-Bättig (www.schamajim.ch) I was allowed to build my own soul drum in spring.

It took a lot of intuition to get involved in the next steps of construction.
The handwork with the different materials (wood, animal skin, yarn, felt) was a lot of fun. I probably could have continued veneering the frame for hours and then sanded it clean.

Through the whole process I experienced once more that what I had imagined and wished for on the whole is probably not what I need.

But as always, the result is all the more surprising and fitting.

The goal was to build my own drum. In the meantime, even a twin drum was born from my calf skin.

Two drums, from the same skin and yet so individual.
Wonderful in their sound and essence.
